Green plants use light energy and carbon dioxide to make food by the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis takes water and carbon dioxide to make food using the solar energy. Oxygen gas is produced as a waste in the process and released to the atmosphere. Plants absorb water and nutrients from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air. They use water to transport the nutrients and food from photosynthesis to all parts of the plant. The energy in the food is released to the plant through a process of photosynthesis. The food and nutrients cause the plant to grow. Respiration in plants releases energy for growth and movement.
5.1.2.1 draw a simple diagram of a green plant to illustrate the process of photosynthesis in terms of light energy, carbon dioxide and oxygen 5.1.2.2 do a simple experiment to show that plants need sunlight to grow
