Strand 3: Personal Body Care and Safety

This strand develops the concepts, understandings, skills, attitudes and behaviours that contribute to lifelong healthy habits and practices. Learners practice good personal hygiene, including cleaning and caring for their mouth, teeth, gums, eyes, nose, skin, hair and nails, cleaning and caring for their personal belongings, personal hygiene and emotional strategies during puberty and appreciating a balanced healthy lifestyle. Learners learn how to identify risks and make plans to avoid potentially dangerous situations. They deal with safety and possible accidents at school, home and in the community. In addition learners are exposed to learning situations that assist them to develop strategies to prevent physical and sexual abuse; knowledge of basic first aid; and prevention of injury and violence.
