Learners participate in and value community life and the political process. They respect legitimate and just structures of governance; understand and appreciate the role of laws in running society and community. They demonstrate active citizenship through their behaviours and practices inside and outside school. Learners value, care for and have respect for others ; recognize the rights of all people and understand and respect differences; learn to work cooperatively to resolve conflicts; be aware and challenge inequality and discrimination; they act in accordance with such values.
Learners know the structure and processes of the democratic system and processes of the country’s legislature, judiciary, executive; understand that government is organised so that services can be delivered to the people of a country; know the functioning of government at their local level and how to access services; understand the structure for administrative purposes (levels, government departments).Learners understand the importance of the international conventions protecting human rights and how they play a role in controlling governments.
