Substrand: "5.5 Natural Hazards" (10 periods)

Natural hazards do occur thus people cannot avoid them. The effects are sometimes enormous, thus people have to find ways to respond to them. Hazards are situations that pose changes to peoples’ lives. Natural events frequently bring dangers to people who live in certain location and conditions. Natural hazards are events such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, river flooding, huge waves and landslides.

5.5.3 understand the effects of natural hazards on people (u)

5.5.3.1 recognise some of the signs which warn people that hazardous events will take place

5.5.4 be aware that natural hazards can change the way people live (a/v)

5.5.4.1 explain the impact natural hazards have on people and the environment

5.5.5 know some measures to take when natural disasters happen (u/k)

5.5.5.1 respond to hazardous natural events in a sensible way (e.g. floods –go to a higher ground; earthquake – stay away from the house; landslide-leave the affected area quickly)
