Strand 1: Numbers and Operations

The Number and Operations strand determines and define quantities and relationships. It involves, sorting, counting, sequencing and calculation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages and ratios. These are used to make comparisons, interpret information, solve problems, and make decisions.

Money is an application of abstract computational skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Problem solving involving the daily life experiences of using money, forms part of teaching using practical materials. This provides the learner with the opportunity to link the classroom to the outside world.
