The syllabus for Year 7 to 9 for Secondary English is presented as a series of strand and sub-strand sheets; each sheet has the same structure. The syllabus outcomes are also coded using year levels and decimals to show progress in the learning outcomes.

Substrand: Title
This section contains the title of the sub-strand. Sub-strands are sub-divisions of a strand and are usually coded. Under Listening for instance, there are a total of four sub strands: Listening for: pleasure and relaxation; information and comprehension; interaction and communication; Language Usage and pronunciation. |
