Section 3: Aims

The Mathematics syllabus aims to:

• introduce mathematical concepts through relevant experiences in real situations
• make mathematics relevant to the local environment and culture
• involve learners in practical activities which are relevant to their age and experience
• encourage effective planning and presentation and varied and interesting lessons
• encourage learners to use mathematical skills in practical activities and problem solving
• encourage learners to appreciate and enjoy the aesthetic nature of mathematics encourage exploration and investigation
• encourage students to talk about their mathematical activities, describing what they do and why
• they do it, so as to deepen their understanding and application of mathematical concepts and skills
• provide authentic contexts for the ongoing development of English language.
