Section 3: Aims
Health Education is part of the primary school curriculum so that learners can learn and develop core concept of health literacy to:
- develop knowledge of the interdependence between physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of health and wellbeing;
- develop and practise positive attitudes, skills and behaviours towards health and wellbeing;
- develop and accept responsibility for their own health and wellbeing;
- develop knowledge and skills to demonstrate care and concern for the health of others, their communities and environments;
- demonstrate the values of respect, inclusiveness and social justice in their interactions with others and their communities;
- develop knowledge of the stages of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual growth and development;
- develop knowledge and skills for prevention and control of risk behaviours, substance abuse and diseases;
- understand the importance of physical activity and healthy food choices for achieving a healthy lifestyle;
- develop and maintain positive health behaviour, habits and safety practices;
- develop knowledge to access quality health related information, products and services; and
- develop positive attitudes and skills to take action to contribute to creating healthy communities and environments.
